Size of scanned picture too much?!HELP!!?

i needed to scan some documents for applications but the scanned pictures are too big in size(in terms of memory)and hence cross the upload limit given in the website. is there any way to reduce the size by say changing its format?if so, how?what software?

btw picture is a .jpg file with resolution(DPI) 300.Size of scanned picture too much?!HELP!!?
It depends what you want to do with the JPG. If you want to keep the dpi at 300 so you can print from the website, then I suggest compressing the JPG's quality until it falls below the website's file requirements.

If you don't want to damage the image's quality with compression, you could try reducing the inch (same as pixel) size of the file--while keeping it at the high JPG quality save and 300 dpi settings.

If you're not going to need the picture for printing, and only want it to display large on the screen, convert the file to 72 dpi and reduce its pixel size accordingly (meaning, after converting to 72 dpi, change the 5000x5000+ pixel image size to something less ridiculous, for instance 800x600).Size of scanned picture too much?!HELP!!?
You can make them smaller in any image editing software.
