How to change desktop size on Vista?

My desktop suddenly shrunk, including the shortcut icons, gadgets, and all the menus. The picture still takes up the whole screen, but the taskbar at the bottom of the screen is smaller, as is everything else. All the menu's in word and the internet are smaller (smaller font).
